This year, TDTC and DIM have collaborated once again to bring you A Night at The Tony’s; an evening of songs from some of Broadway’s most celebrated musicals as well as a full original musical, improvised on the night! All being hosted by the magnificent Rosie Minnitt and Lily Edwards.
My vision for this production was to bring a night of excellent live theatre to Durham in a glamorous and glitzy setting, and whilst The Assembly Rooms Theatre isn’t quite Radio City Music Hall, we hope that we are able to create the same electric atmosphere through our performances and that you are able to leave feeling like you’ve caught a glimpse of some of the best productions of the last 20 years or so. With such a diversely talented group of individuals, it was inevitable that many of our troupe would be crazily busy in the after exam period, but the nature of a showcase has meant that it has worked wonderfully and our rehearsals have been easily slotted in around the millions of other commitments that the troupe has. We even managed to fit in a black tie photo-shoot for our promotional material, which turned out so well, so thank you to Mari-Liis Duglas for that!
Without revealing too much, we have some songs that you should recognise as classics from your favourite musicals but also some that may be new to you. We’ve purposely mixed it up and introduced some lesser-known songs to provide a full span of the kind of productions that are currently on Broadway. With a wide range of performances, from quartets to all out ensemble numbers, there is guaranteed to be something that everyone enjoys.
To kick off the evening, we are holding a drinks reception in Hatfield Bar from 6.45pm and there will be a wandering photographer to get those all-important candids. So, gather your friends, get dressed up and come to our ‘Night at The Tonys.’ See you on the red carpet…
A Night at the Tony’s is on at 7.30 pm, Sunday 10th June at The Assembly Rooms Theatre.
